Wrestling
YMS Wrestling is open to all Yorkville CUSD 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Yorkville Middle School. Wrestling does not have cuts and welcomes both boys and girls to join. There is a Junior Varsity and Varsity squad, so your child will face other wrestlers that are at a similar skill level. There are over 14 different weight classes as well to ensure your child will wrestle someone who is of equal size.
We are a developmental program with our main goal being to prepare our wrestlers for success at the high school level by instilling work ethic and fundamentals that are essential to the sport of wrestling. A benefit for wrestlers in the YMS program is that they participate in "dual" meets with other schools, which is similar to the format of competitions at the high school level. Wrestlers will thus become familiar with the "team" aspects of wrestling and be more prepared for the transition to high school wrestling.
YMS wrestling is a member of the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA), which allows individual wrestlers to compete the state tournament beginning with a regional tournament. The top 4 place winners in the regional tournament will advance to a sectional tournament, with the top 3 sectional place winners advancing to the state tournament. This tournament begins at the end of February after the conclusion of our regular season.
